DETERMINATION OF BROMIDE IONS IN WATERS BY RGB - COLORIMETRY USING FLUORESCEIN

Procedure has been developed for the determination of bromide ions using fluorescein and RGB - colorimetry based on oxidation of bromide to bromine by sodium hypochlorite and on fluorescein bromination with formation of eosin. For the removal of excess of hypochlorite sodium thiosulphate solution is added after a certain time. Subsequent preconcentration of colored product as an ion associate of eosin with cationic surfactant was proposed. Conditions of preconcentration of analytical form mentioned on membrane filters as a thin layer were examined. Limit of detection for bromides is 10 μg/dm3. Working range of calibration plot for bromide ions determination is 20-80 μg/dm3. Procedure is rapid and suitable for the analysis of natural and drinking water
