Abstract

In this study, the electrochemical behavior of cyclopenthiazide was investigated at a glassy carbon electrode using cyclic voltammetry (CV). The oxidation of cyclopenthiazide was found to be completely irreversible over the scan rate range of 0.001–0.05 V s−1 and was controlled by diffusion. An irreversible oxidation peak was observed at approximately −0.889 V. Experimental parameters that affect the voltammetric response were optimized to achieve optimal analytical performance. Under the optimized conditions, the oxidation peak current showed a linear relationship with cyclopenthiazide concentration over the range of 20–200 μg mL−1. The limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) were calculated to be 7.276 and 22.05 μg mL−1, respectively. The proposed method was successfully applied to the determination of cyclopenthiazide in pharmaceutical formulations. The developed electrochemical method is simple, rapid, cost-effective, and requires no complicated sample preparation, while providing satisfactory precision and accuracy.
