ESTIMATION OF THE OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF MELAMINE FORMALDEHYDE POLYMERS BY AQUAMETRIC DATA

, It is found that insufficiently good optical properties of melamine formaldehyde polymers (MF polymers) are caused by their microheterogeneity which manifests itself as cordiness due to the presence of free water; the latter is a side low, molecular product of polycondensation synthesis. On the base of the results of titrametric water determination by K. Fisher it is established that the introduction of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) (a proton, acceptor modifier) into MF polymers in a volume ratio of 1:1 allows to add a major portion of free water to form a strong complex. As such a modification leads to significant improvement of the optical, physico, mechanical and functional properties of MF polymers, it may be concluded that there exists a clear correlation between the amount of free water and the properties of MF polymers. So, the aquametric data may be used for prediction of the optical and some physico, mechanical properties of MF polymers.
