Methods for determining the different valence forms of Cerium and Europium (Review).

Literature data on hydration, hydrolysis, complexation of rare-earth elements (REE) and the methods for their determination in various objects were systematized. The attention was focused on the properties of different valence forms of the lanthanides, in particular, cerium (III, IV) and europium (II, III). It was stated that different tasks for the determination of the REE total contents can be solved thanks to the current level of analytical chemistry. Unsolved and top issues of the speciation analysis of inorganic materials containing REE either as major or impurity components were formulated. Some new possibilities of redox, spectrophotometric and luminescence detection and quantity determination of Eu (II, III) and Ce (III, IV) at the simultaneous presence of different-valence forms were considered.
